Luz: My name is Luz. I am from Orlando and I was wondering if there are any other options to disciplining a child aside from putting them on time-out? Michael Steiner: Luz, great question and a universal question for all parents. Remember, time-out is very popular and works well. But you have to put your child in time-out for one minute for every year of age they are. If you are not using time-out, there are two basic strategies. One is negative reinforcement which is punishment for bad things. The other is positive reinforcement which is rewarding good behavior. No matter which method of discipline you choose, remember that after the discipline is over, show your child how much you love them.
