Director Alex Franchi on The Wild Hunt Tanya Houle: Clever and intense to Wild Hunt is the fantasy reality of the role playing game. Hi. I’m Tanya welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we will be speaking with the director of the film Alex Franchi. Alex Franchi: It’s the mask of our actress that our actress wear and it’s the mask of the beast in the Wild Hunt and the Wild Hunt is a legends coming from Northern Europe where apparently there’s a human body with a head of a goat or an elk running across the woods followed by hounds, and horses and people and it destroys everything on its wake and on its passage and when you saw the Wild Hunt it meant either you went insane and join in, you got to destroy it so it’s one of the oldest symbols known to man. Tanya Houle: Can you tell you tell us a little bit about the Wild Hunt? Alex Franchi: The idea was originally brought to me by the co-screen writer Mark Krupa who is a lead actor if you want. It’s about a very realistic, down-to-earth guy who goes up to a medieval game to follow his girlfriend to win her back. He’s got a shit life taking care of his dad and hey suffering glamorous. And she has kind of escaped for fun. And as he goes there he realizes that she even seduced by one of the cool players of charismatic shaman. To follow and to deal with her he’s going to put her costume, he’s going her to role play and it’s not pretty his thing so he kind of has to get to help his older brother some dead beat guy pure and magnificent, a piece of Viking warrior and he was completely over the top and only lives for that game. In trying to get his girl back he kind of breaks the rules and he kind of pushes the game with too far and a kind of breaks the little fantasy bubble of all the guys having fun there and things sort to escalate. Tanya Houle: For those viewers who don’t know about Herlaþing, can you fill us in on that? Alex Franchi: These are people who dress in medieval costume of a certain era or all eras mixing and go reenact some battles or play different fantasy scenarios in outdoor setting. Tanya Houle: What kind of research went on to the creation of the film? Alex Franchi: The film is set at the Duché de Bicolline. It’s like a whole village, medieval village and people meet there in the summer and they do it so we kind of make partners. We partnered up with these guys to film there even in the summer when they have their big battles. We have to hide our camera on their pelts and wear costumes but having played dungeons and dragons and reading a lot about fantasy and legends. It was very unnatural fit. I don’t have to do too much research. Tanya Houle: How would you categorize this particular film? Alex Franchi: It’s not a fantasy film in the sense that there is no super power as a horror mythical powers and stuff like that. We call it modern medieval saga. It’s got that whole experience saga thing love triangle with those who are really bad but its modern and yet it’s medieval so it’s hard to define. Tanya Houle: Thank you very much for your time. Alex Franchi: You’re welcome. It’s my pleasure.
