Andy: Hi, my name is Andy, and I'm from Cambridge, Massachusetts. I'm allergic to cats and I was wondering if I live with the cat, will my allergy go away? David Lang: Andy, it's unlikely your allergy will go away. You may become accustom to having symptoms on a chronic basis, such that you don't notice it as much. But, there's really no second best measure that approaches the benefit that will occur if you eliminate your pet from the home. There are second best measures which begin with restricting your cat from the bedroom. Also there is some evidence indicating that washing the cat twice a week maybe helpful for reducing level of allergen that the cat releases. But, there's nothing that compares with eliminating the cat from your home as a way to manage your allergy.
