Cool of Your Winter Heating Bills Ken: The Farmer’s Almanac has predicted and Farmer’s Almanac says it’s between eighty and eighty five percent accurate. I guess it is because I don’t follow. But that’s what they say. They are predicting I think to get people crazy, a catastrophically cold winter this year. And it’s estimated we’re going to pay about twenty two billion dollars more in heating oil this year than we did last year. So, Daria Dolan Where was Uncle Sam to pick up the tab? He’s paying for everything else lately. Ken: Okay floral ladies, easy for you to talk about the cost of heating oil because you don’t like that neither down here. Daria Dolan I know. I know it. Ken: Here’s the deal. Are not a lot of people, Midwest and the North, whether where it’s going to be the coldest, they’ve been approached by the heating oil supplier and saying “Hey, if you want to just let the price rise and we’ll just fill your tank up? You know, they six hundred get, remember that one? It will remain six hundred gallons. You wanted to just to bill you every time we fill it whenever the cost of heating always all the time. Or do you want to do a pre-pay plan? Pin down the price of your heating oil per gallon. Number one is less than a dollar, per gallon now and we’ll honor that for the winter. Daria Dolan I say, Ken says if you can get a prepaid plan and you can lock in the price of oil right now, after you shop it down. Ken: After you shop, shop, shop your plans, and shop the plan. Daria Dolan Also, while you shop your plans, be very careful. You want to know about the company that’s been around through thick and thin for a long, long time. There are some fly by nights that come in to the picture. They make this bargain basement cut right deals with people and then in the dead of winter when you’re running on empty, they’re out of oil and have nothing to deliver. Ken: I wish we could do the same thing with Florida power and light down in Florida with the electricity. Our bottom line is this like I said if you shop around we like the idea of prepaid. A lot of experts have predicted that heating oil, including us part of that but heating oil and a little electricity are going to surprise us or going to sky rocket. So if you can pin it down after shopping around to find. But one thing I want to warn you, don’t be late with any payments to suppliers. Things are tight this year. Business is not great. Sometimes the supply of heating oil is a problem. So, if you’re not paying your bills that heating oil is going to go some place else. Daria Dolan And if you know somebody in your family or your neighborhood or whatever or maybe yourself, know that you’re going to have a difficult time trying to pay for your heating oil or your natural gas for this winter, contact your state government and find out what programs are available for you. Ken: Another thing to save you of a couple of bucks is too is check your heating oil equipment every year. Daria Dolan Oh yeah, get that burner cleaned out. Ken: Exactly. Daria Dolan Get it cleaned out. Get all every thing checked that has to be checked. It’ll cost you right now to get it done but it will create more efficient heating for your home all winter long. Ken: And if worse comes to worst, cuddle for warmth. Daria Dolan Yeah, but you can’t cuddle too much.
