Christina Aguilera on February Cover of Marie Claire: Celebrity Secret Weapon Zelana: Christina Aguilera had a smoldering smoky metallic eye in the February cover of Marie Claire. It was so intriguing that I asked the celebrity makeup artist who created her look, Kristofer Buckle, to come to show us how to get it. Kristofer Buckle: I wanted to do something that was maintaining Christina’s sensuality and her more glamorous side without making it too formal. I wanted to keep her more informal, comfortable, intimate kind of feeling. The first step that I did to create this look for Christina is to line the lower lip with slate gray eyeshadow. I'm taking the makeup on to my brush and then on to my finger before applying it to the face because it helps get the makeup into the bristles of the brush and I'm just going to get it right up against your lower lash line like this. And if I don’t push really hard and I just lay it in very lightly it’s going to go on a lot of more soft than if I were to drag it and draw a whole line. The second step for getting a smoky eye is using the same gray eyeshadow and the softer brush and applying it to the upper eyelid. We’re using that only one eyeshadow but I'm doing it lightly across your eyelid and into your crease and making sure it’s nicely blended. But then I'm going back and putting it a little bit heavier and darker on the outer corner of your eye. It’s very important to try to keep it so that you don’t go below this angle here of the lower eyelid. And if you do you can always take a little concealer and just highlight that back so that your eye goes up and doesn’t start to get drag down. Zelana: So what’s it like working with Christina before red carpet event? Kristofer Buckle: She loves getting ready, she loves the whole process, she loves collaborating, you know, she likes to hear from the hairdresser. She wants to hear from the makeup artist. She wants to hear from her stylist. She respects opinions and so she likes everyone to have their input. She loves makeup. She is a glamour girl. Okay now, this is the big moment. This is the part where we add that metallic edge to the eye. You want to really put it in a very specific place. So with your eye close you're going to just go around the inside really close to the inner corner of your eye. The matte eyeshadow that we use is still going to absorb light and it’s going to create shape to your eye when it’s open, and bringing the metallic shadow just right by your tear drop right there adds a real freshness to the eye and it keeps and looking really modern. Now if you really want to channel Christina with this look you want to throw on a really good pair of eyelashes and two coats of thick mascara.
