Jamie: Hi! I am Jamie and I am 50. Is it true that some say, emotional trauma at an early age, especially bad parenting is the cause for autism? Daniel Geschwind: Jamie, the question that you ask really raises a lot of very important issues that have been around autism for a while. And can lead many to an emotional reaction, because for decades it was thought that autism was due to bad parenting and especially cold mothers. We now know that this is a very biological, highly genetic disorder, and a bad parenting, early emotional trauma is not the cause of autism.
