Carmindy's Expert Beauty Secrets Audra Lowe: Welcome back to Better. Hi everybody. Coming up next a bed that you’d definitely are not going to want to get out off. Also, breaking beds Anna Gunn, she’s going to be here talking about her balancing act because she’s got a serious balancing act to talk about. But first, if you walk by any cosmetic counter or into any drugstore, the hunt for the right beauty product might be overwhelming, for a lot of women it is. Not anymore though because Carmindy is here, the make-up artist on TLC’s hit show “What Not to Wear.” She’s also the author of “Crazy Busy Beautiful” and she’s sharing her best-kept-money-saving-quick- easy beauty secrets, all to help unleash our inner glamazon, right. And you can explain what glamazon is. Carmindy: Exactly. Audra Lowe: Good to have you here. Carmindy: Thanks for having me. Audra Lowe: So, you’re the make-up artist? Carmindy: That’s right. Audra Lowe: You have worked with so many celebrities and you mentioned to me just before we started that you’ve created the book because you really wanted to talk to real women. Every celebrity has got some help. Carmindy: Every celebrity has got way too much. How about real want to need the real help because these women have jobs and kids and sometimes they go to school too. They don’t have a lot of time to get ready in the morning. So, we’re going to make it quick and easy for them. Audra Lowe: And inexpensive which I love too. So, we’re going to start off with one tip here as far as exfoliating your skin. Carmindy: Yes. Audra Lowe: Sugar? Carmindy: Sugar. And you want to save a lot of money? Don’t spend it because lots of money on expensive exfoliants. All you need to do is go into your kitchen, get your sugar. When you take a shower, you wash your face at night, put a little one your hand, scrub in circular motions, gets rid of dead skin and dry skin and makes your skin very sweet and pretty. Audra Lowe: Now, I have to ask you this Carmindy because a lot of beauty experts would say use cornmeal to do the same thing. Carmindy: Right. Audra Lowe: Is that much more harsh? Carmindy: Actually cornmeal’s not going to exfoliate as much as the crystals in sugar will. So, it’s actually a much better way. And also great if you’re traveling, throw a pack in your bag and you can take your exfoliant wherever you go, body and face. So it’s a really good product. Audra Lowe: Okay now, especially during the summer months, you get the eyeliner, you pull it out, you get ready to use it and it’s melted. Carmindy: Right, exactly, because there’s all this softer pencils which is great because it goes on easier. But what happens when it’s hot and humid outside is they get mushy. The best thing to do is actually stick your pencils in the refrigerator or the freezer for a little while and it hardens, it gets colder, and then it’ll glide right on and won't be mushy and smooshy all over your face. Audra Lowe: Then you can sharpen it too. Carmindy: Exactly. Audra Lowe: A lot of women just throw it out of the way too. Now, I saw this next tip and I got really excited until I realized what it was. You’re talking about enhancing your cleavage. Carmindy: That’s right. Audra Lowe: I need help but we’re not talking about the kind of help that I need though, its a little bronzer, right? Carmindy: Exactly, a little bronzer, a little highlight goes on one way. What you want to do is take bronzer and you want to put the bronzer right in the center of your cleavage, right? Right where they come together and then you want to actually highlight the top and this is actually going to accentuate the breast area. And all of a sudden you’ve created a nice chest line without having to get any surgery, so that’s a very quick-easy tip. Audra Lowe: And is it really difficult to know exactly where to put what, or did you just kind of play with it? Carmindy: Yeah, just bronze in the center and light on top. That’s all you need. Audra Lowe: Now, when you’re starting to put your make-up on, you get a lot about primers. How important are the primers? Carmindy: Primers are huge. A lot of women don’t have a lot of money to go to a dermatologist and get perfect glowing skin. You can buy it in a bottle. It’s really amazing. This is my luminizing face primer from Natural Beauty and Spread by Carmandy. You can get it at CDS so it’s not expensive. It goes on the skin. It reflects light and makes your skin smooth and creamy. Audra Lowe: And a lot of women will ask. And I even have this question, you put the primer on, how long do you have to wait before you can put the make-up on, so it doesn’t smear all over? Carmindy: You don’t have to wait at all. The minute it goes on the skin, you can put make-up right on top and it glides right on seamlessly. Audra Lowe: Okay. Good to know that. It feels good too. Now, there's a big gigantic container of lotion here. So, you can kind of create your own concoctions so to speak, right? Carmindy: That’s right. If you have your favorite perfume and you don’t have to go out and buy the expensive lotion, the matches, I always get unscented lotion. I put a few drops on my favorite perfume or oil. You can actually add a little bit of the luminizing face primer so there’s a little shimmer in there. And then you put on your body, so you have a body moisturizer that also has a scent and a little shimmer. Audra Lowe: That’s good to know. Carmindy: It’s good money saving tips so you don’t have to spend a lot on expensive things. Audra Lowe: Because that’s all they’re doing anyway, right? Carmindy: That’s exactly what they’re doing. Audra Lowe: Before we go, we have a few seconds left. You’ve dropped broken, however it happens your eyeshadow, don’t get rid of it. There’s a way to salvage it. Carmindy: There’s a way to get rid of it or the way to save it, what you want to do is get a little plastic container, take your broken shadows, stick it in there, crush it up and now you have a lose powder shadow so you don’t need to throw it away. Audra Lowe: That was fantastic. Have you learned a lot of this by trial and error? Carmindy: A lot of trial and error and a lot of time saving and money saving tips on my own. Audra Lowe: Exactly. You did a great job. Thank you so much Carmindy. Carmindy: Thanks for having me. Audra Lowe: Good to have you here.
