Celia: My name is Celia; I am from Cedarville, Ohio. And I was just curious if breastfeeding reduces your risk of breast cancer or increases it. Steve Edge: Actually Celia, there is no strong evidence that breastfeeding increases or decreases your risk of breast cancer. There has been a lot of talk about it, but if it is any factor at all, it's a very minor factor. In contrast, breastfeeding has many advantages for both the child and the mother. And for women who are at works, it's a great idea. We have to remember that it doesn't work for everybody and we don't need to feel guilty if people don't breastfeed, but using breast cancer risk is a reason why people should or should not breastfeed, probably is not a good idea.
