Owen: Hi, this is Owen Acheton from Dad Labs and I'm here with actor, writer and dad, Tony Hale. Tony: That tells that you're trying to remember my name. I'm here with, actor, writer. Owen: He's this guy. You’ve seen him. Anyway, so Tony is a father, Aloya, beautiful little girl. She’s 17 months? Tony: 16. Owen: 16 months. Okay, she's just so mature for her age. Tony: Yeah, good research. Owen: Thank you. So you live out in Los Angeles. Tony: I do. Owen: And you're a celebrity has grown. Tony: Huge. Owen: You're big. You're blowing up all over the place. So you’ve been in, recently there's Will Ferrell’s, you co-starred in Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction. Of course Arrested Development, which is a brilliant show. And you're here now in Austin, Texas filming The Purples. So tell us like, how is it with being a celebrity, being a father. What's the challenge there? Tony: A challenge. I think it can be a challenge if you go away for 2-3 months for a shoot or something. But a lot of the times, it’s really good. Because you go a lot of time in between just spending with her. Because when you're not working you're at home, and both of us are parenting. And if I do go on location, this show is just here for about week and a half. So they didn’t need to come, but if for a long time I try and get them along with me. Because that’s when it becomes difficult with families when there's too much separation. Owen: Yeah. Now you're also though, you're getting recognized in places. Tony: Everywhere. Owen: Yeah. Because you're blowing up. You're huge. I can't believe I'm here. Is that strange, is that a strange pressure on you as a dad? Tony: No, because I mean corky sidekicks don’t get that much attention. If people are really kind, if they're fans of the show and I get recognized at some point. It’s not a big deal. Owen: Yeah. Tony: If anything, you might get some free food out of it. Owen: I heard that you got some free sushi. Tony: I did, the other night. It was nice. Owen: I don’t trust free sushi. I think I need to pay for it. Tony: I should give an ad plug for that shouldn’t I? Uchi it their name. They're very good. Owen: Yes. Uchi. That’s what I've been told. Now the different parts that you’ve played, Buster on Arrested Development, and other characters, they are not ideal father figures. Tony: Right. Owen: So are you that person? What would I say? Tony: Mother hot. Owen: Yeah, it is hot, this is Texas. Tony: I mean, I kind of have this true lie of playing this neurotic kind of nervous characters, something my daughter will love to watch when she gets older. Owen: Yeah. Tony: Like this character for instance, he's nervous, but he's kind of just an innocent naïve dad. So this probably along the line of what she’ll watch. Arrested Development, she needs to be older to watch that. Owen: 'Til 8. Has she seen anything yet you on TV or in a film? Tony: No. Owen: Not yet. Tony: She's all about Baby Einstein right now. So the Baby Einstein tramps dad. Owen: Well maybe you can get a cameo. Tony: Yeah. This interview probably sucking because I'm probably like the worst dad. Like, he got the worst answers.hes a horrible father. Owen: Well, that’s okay. We all are horrible fathers one way or another. I want you to know that. Tony: Thank you Owen. Thank you. Owen: Well thanks so much Tony for being here on Dad Labs and sharing some experiences with us. Tony: And I'm trying to think a piece of advice for dads. Owen: Yeah, give us some advice. Tony: Let me think. I think, this sounds cheesy, but I think it’s a really good piece of advice. Because if you have other men who are fathers that you know that you can be honest with those stuff. That you can like ask questions, you can talk about stuff. It comes with the family, I think that’s nice to have. Because everybody kind of goes through the same stuff. Especially, because I was, the first 3 months of the baby, hell. Like that is just like your psyche is like totally knocked away. So if you can have other people to talk to, I think that’s pretty cool. Owen: Yeah. That makes a lot of sense. Well thanks Tony. Tony: Oprah. Thanks guys.
