A couple plans for a dolphin assisted birth. A couple recently flew to Hawaii with the goal of birthing their child in the presence of dolphins. They are staying and studying at an institute established to ‘dolphinize’ the planet. Said the mother to be, “It is about reconnecting as humans with the dolphins so we can coexist in this world together and learn from one another.”The pre and post aspects of the experience include swimming with the mammals as a means of bonding with the pod. According to the mother, even if the birth doesn’t take place in the water, the connections made will still assist in having a calming and relaxing birth. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation say, however, that there is no proof that dolphin assisted therapies offer any benefits. They also point out that all parties involved in such an experience are susceptible to infections and diseases. They don’t deny that it may temporarily improve a person’s mood. The dolphins tend to not be amused by it, though.Research has shown that dolphin communities that have been infiltrated by a regular human presence tend to pull up stakes and move along.
