Los Angeles Songwriter Sara Bareilles takes some time before an intimate performance at Rockwood Music Hall to discuss some of the exciting things going on in her life. Here, she touches on both the inspirations that fueled her new album, Kaleidoscope Heart, as well as tells us about some of her recent experiences on the Lilith Fair.

An Interview with Sara Bareilles The new album I guess started to sort of formulate as I got off the road and I took a pretty long way and spent about eight months just at home in L.A. I'm supposed to spend a lot of time writing but I really didn’t have much to say it turns out on the beginning and then a friend of mine wrote one of the songs that I really serves as a centerpiece for me it’s called uncharted and that’s how I got the title of the record. And that song was all about sort of stepping into the unknown and going in the uncharted territory and being scared out of your mind and the first time I said something that I actually cared about in a long time in terms of writing. So it was a nice kind of benchmark to start from and then the rest of the record luckily came after that. We just finished actually last night on will affair and it was the most inspired I've been in a long time. I can't say enough good things about getting the opportunity to collaborate and to just sort of pick the brains of all these amazing women I have been fans of a lot of them for a long time but I never had the opportunity to meet most of the women that we performed with and it was amazing everyone is so different and so unique from each other but there was not even the slightest tingling of ego or competition it was all really truly about the celebrating each other and just tingling each other up and I will be -- I’ll be taking a lot from that for a long time it’s definitely I think I needed that.
