She gave an interview with the BBC, which addressed this issue. The interview covered her guarded living situations, and revealed the fact that she doesn’t leave the palace, but has people come to visit her at home. Karzai is quoted as saying: "I have not traveled to anywhere inside Afghanistan…This country has suffered from more than 30 years of war. We need to fix everything gradually, and work in line with our culture and traditions." Zinat Karzai is an accomplished doctor who worked in Pakistan before getting married. Women in Afghanistan are fighting for their rights with the government, and many feel they not getting enough support from the United States. Afghanistan’s President Karzai appoints all provincial and district government officials. He reportedly has only hired three women since 2001, a governor, a mayor, and a woman as head of one district out of 398 in Afghanistan.
