Advice to Parents Who Lost a Child Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time. It will never be gone but it will get easier to talk about. This has been almost two years. I couldn’t have done this a year ago, maybe not even six months ago but time helps. Talking helps with other people who have gone through the same thing which is not easy to find. And keeping that person’s memory alive, seeing pictures, showing happy times, reliving the fun parts of that person’s life and that connection that you have. And you realize that that person is still there for you in a very deep way and will always be with you but it’s not in the same way.
