3R-UNICEF All Women's Futsal Playoffs Empower Girls to Fight AIDS Female: You are watching UNICEF television. The girls in the 3R- UNICEF all women’s futsal playoffs are assuring the boys they are just as good if not better than them. The support from the Manchester United Football Club under the United for UNICEF partnership, the playoffs adding response to the alarming rise in the rate of HIV infections among girls and women in Malaysia. In 1995, women made up only 4% of newly reported cases of HIV. At the end of the 2006, these numbers swell almost four-fourth of 15%. The royal highness Raja Zarith Sofia, Consort to the Regent of Johor launched the first playoff regional Bahru and calling the initiative as a valuable response to help girls and young women develop life skills to tackle HIV. Raja Zarith Sofia: HIV is a big problem in Malaysia, but not many people want to acknowledge it or we've rather not think about it. So to have a program like this means that young people and those who have no knowledge of it will have some awareness about the disease and the illness and a correct picture of what it really is all about. Female: The playoffs were organized for the second time by Malaysia’s innovative TV program for women and girls 3R and UNICEF under the banner Unite for Children: Unite against AIDS. The playoffs are Malaysia’s largest women angles which are gathering today. Wing Sie Chen: We’re just hoping that the girls will have fun. Enjoy the day and participate in the games, but most importantly understand the significance of what they are doing in terms of sending a very strong message that girls can do what the boys do. And girls can exercise free choice and exercise decision to do what they feel is good for them. And that’s some a very important confidence building process for girls and women. Female: UNICEF Malaysia’s Goodwill Ambassadors, the 3R TV hosts to the playoffs step further with special HIV educational workshops in schools around Malaysia. The support from UNICEF and AIESEC, ,Malaysia’s youth player educators innovative games, role plays and quizzes were carried out to help over 1000 students learn about HIV and how to keep the virus at bay.
