2011 Volvo S60 This is Kristin with MotherProof.com at the 2010 New York Auto Show. Now, just imagine the world where your car actually has human-like senses. Well, that world is happening right here and now and this is the 2011 Volvo S60 which cannot only feel what the driver does but can also see. Last year at the show, Volvo introduced what they called City Safety, where a car would actually see another car in front of it and stop to prevent the coalition. Now, the next iteration of that in the S60 is pedestrian detection with full auto break. Now, radar here at the front of the car will actually detect whether or not there is an object in the vehicles way. And a camera mounted just behind the rear-view mirror will detect whether or not that object is human. Now, if the car is traveling up to 22 miles per hour, it can stop to completely avoid the coalition with a human. In 2008, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration found that more than 4,400 lives were lost in pedestrian coalition. Now all of the sudden it makes sense why Volvo is taking this so seriously. Now even though the S60 is quite maneuverable, Volvo is making it even easier on us with an optional rear-view camera and front split view camera that allows the car to see 180 degrees in front of it making it super easy to pull out of those extra tight parking spaces. Despite the S60 potentially being one of the safest vehicles on the road, Volvo isn’t forgetting about driving pleasure. It’s actually designed to this vehicle for the driving enthusiast with a turbo six-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower; this vehicle is not only super safe but incredibly fun to drive.
